Joliet Junior College bounced back after its first loss of the season last week.

The Wolves defeated Concordia University JV 76-53 on Monday.

"Defense definitely (keyed the win) and our depth," JJC coach Shaun Sanderson said. "I don't think they hit a 3-point shot in the second half. Depth was the key (in the second half) and our transition offense."

Deesha Brefford paced JJC's offensive attack with 19 points. She was able to get to the paint whenever she pleased, something Sanderson has gotten used to.

"She's an offensive power in this region and can score at will," Sanderson said. "Sometimes it's not pretty, but sometimes it is pretty. She's probably one of the better guards in our region."

Brefford and the Wolves took it to Concordia taking a six-point lead after one quarter and never looked back.

A 3-pointer by Amber Watson and a Brefford basket gave the Wolves an 8-point lead headed to the break. JJC piggybacked the run to end the first half with six more points to open the third quarter taking a 14-point lead.  The Wolves stretched the lead to 18 by the end of the third quarter and were never challenged in the fourth quarter.

Destiny Villalejo added 13 for Sanderson's squad.

The Wolves will go on the road to take on Olive-Harvey College on Tuesday.
