Joliet Junior College is hitting its stride at the right time.
The No. 5 Wolves, now winners of four straight games, crushed College of DuPage 76-24 on Wednesday evening.
"You like to try to wear down your opponent early so if you make mistakes later on, you've done the work earlier to secure the win," coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "But, we still need to get better with the communication down the stretch."
"We talked about ball pressure. We normally don't pressure the person taking the ball out of bounds but today we did," Sanderson continued. "We were able to get some deflections which led to turnovers and layup baskets."
The game was over early as the Wolves took a 35-point lead to halftime and kept total control of the game in the second half.
Jessica Pelton had her best game of the year reaching double digits with 10 points and fell two rebounds short of a double-double grabbing eight.
Talia Edwards led the Wolves with 14 while
Destiny Villalejo and
Madison Harris each had 12 points.
Nia Harris (10 points) also reached double digits.
"She's (Pelton) very quick once she gets the ball," Sanderson said. "You can see a couple passes she was able to secure. She has really good hands. Sometimes as a coach you kind of forget what her talents are, but I guess she reminded me tonight that I can play her more down the stretch."
The Wolves have two huge North Central Conference games, Saturday at Rock Valley and then next Wednesday at Madison College. The Wolves lost to both teams earlier in the season and every game is important as the Wolves battle for postseason seeding.
"Moving forward, our players, even though we lost those games, know those are games we should have won," Sanderson said. "Don't want to look too far ahead, but they know we're capable of winning those games."
