JOLIET - Joliet Junior College has thrived in its first season under coach
Dan Brown reaching the 20-win plateau and twice entering the national rankings.
But, now the Wolves have their sights set on bigger goals. JJC (20-13) earned the No. 4 seed in the Region IV Tournament and will host No. 5 Elgin at the
Event Center at 6 P.M. on Wednesday.
The winner will square off against No. 1 Rock Valley at 10 A.M. on Saturday at Harper College in the semifinal round. The Region IV championship match will also be played on Saturday at Harper with 3 P.M. as the slated start time.
The Wolves have one prior meeting with Elgin, a 3-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-17, 25-18) victory at the Joliet Junior College Quad Tournament on Sept. 22. Sophomores
Cuay Whitener (14 kills, 12 digs) and
Isabella Cosentino (35 assists, 13 digs) both had double-doubles against Elgin in the first meeting. A link to the box score is below.
The Wolves split a pair of matches against top-seeded Rock Valley, their semifinal opponent if they defeat Elgin. JJC defeated Rock Valley 3-2 (7-25, 25-22, 32-30, 12-25, 15-13) on Sept. 11 while losing 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-14) in the Oct. 9th rematch.
The Wolves closed their regular season slate on Saturday with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-20) win over College of Lake County. It was JJC's fifth straight victory.
