JOLIET - Joliet Junior College has enjoyed a successful season with several accolades and now there's more.
Sophomores
Cuay Whitener and
Isabella Cosentino were named All-Conference in the North Central Community College Conference. Whitener was named to the First Team while Cosentino was named Second Team.
Whitener, an outside hitter, has been excellent all season and was named First Team All-Region IV while also earning an All-American nomination. She is third in the country with a robust 391 kills (3.08/set) and has been outstanding defensively. Whitener has racked up 394 digs (ranked 30th nationally) and 16 double-doubles. The sophomore racked up 20 kills in a signature win for JJC, a 3-2 victory over nationally ranked Rock Valley.Â
Cosentino, a setter who was named Second Team All-Region IV, led the Wolves with 21 double-doubles including one in Wednesday's Region IV Quarterfinal win over Elgin Community College. She had a season-high 43 assists on Aug. 31 in JJC's 3-2 victory over College of DuPage. She is second in the country with 956 assists and fifth in the country with 84 aces. She is also a threat at the net to tip racking up 100 kills.Â
The duo spearheaded JJC's midseason run into the national rankings. JJC earned the fourth seed in the Region IV Tournament and defeated Elgin Community College in the quarterfinal. The Wolves will play top-seeded Rock Valley in the semifinals at 10 A.M. on Saturday.
