JOLIET - Joliet Junior College battled with Anoka-Ramsey until the very end coming out with an 83-78 victory at the Event Center on Saturday.
Kierra Tyler converted on a traditional 3-point play to put the Wolves up five with just over a minute to go, but MacKenna Brown's 3-pointer put the Rams within two with 23 seconds remaining.
Amil Mitchell nailed a pair of free throws with 12 seconds to go and Anoka-Ramsey got no closer. Mitchell finished with six points and five assists.
Emily Atsinger and
Talia Edwards carried the heavy load for the Wolves. Edwards finished with a double-double going 8-for-14 from the field for 23 points. Edwards and
Lynese Johnson each grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds.
Atsinger led JJC (4-1) with 26 points hitting three 3-pointers.
JJC had a huge first quarter outscoring Anoka-Ramsey 25-8 and led by six heading into halftime.
The Wolves will square off against Kankakee Community College at 5 P.M. on Tuesday.
