Deesha Brefford became Joliet Junior College's all-time leading scorer scoring 27 points in the team's 105-31 victory at College of DuPage on Saturday.
Brefford's excellent game gave her 1,005 points on her career passing Kelly Pero's 995 points.
"Many coaches don't get to coach or see talented players such as Deesha," coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "I have been blessed to do both. Players like Deesha help make parts of coaching easy. I am very happy for Deesha and her family. To break a record and become the all-time leader in scoring at the oldest public community college in the country is a memory she will cherish for a lifetime. It could not have happened to a more humble person. I am happy to be a part of Deesha's journey. At the same time, it's not over. We have more work to do."
JJC (23-7) outscored College of DuPage 40-8 in the first quarter and cruised from there.
Fellow standout
Kianna Campbell scored 22 points in the win.
Amber Lemons (14) and
Destiny Villalejo (13) rounded out the double-digit scorers. Campbell's 10 assists gave her a double-double on the evening. Lemons also had a double-double grabbing 10 rebounds.
The Wolves closed out the regular season with the win and will now look forward to a home contest against Harper on Thursday with the winner set to go to the Region IV semifinals in Madison, Wisc. on Saturday.
