MADISON, WISC - Joliet Junior College came into Saturday's Region IV semifinals having lost been swept in the regular season by Madison.

However, the third time was the charm for the Wolves, who overcame a six-point halftime deficit to defeat the host Wolfpack 74-69 on Saturday.

The win advances No. 3 JJC (25-7) to Sunday's Region IV championship game set for a 1 p.m. tip against Rock Valley.

"This was a great game in a great playoff atmosphere," coach Shaun Sanderson said. "I thought we controlled the tempo and played great team defense down the stretch. Both teams did not want to go home but our depth was a key factor."

Kianna Campbell made her presence felt defensively with a steal and a basket in the game's final minute. Campbell also drilled two huge free throws to extend JJC's lead to four with 14 seconds remaining. She finished with 15 points, dished seven assists and had four steals.

Amber Lemons had an outstanding game for the Wolves, dominating inside scoring 16 points.

Deesha Brefford led the Wolves with 17 points and Talia Edwards had 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

The Wolves lost both regular season matchups to Rock Valley.

"This type of game was expected. When we play Madison, just throw the record out the window. It's always a physical game that goes to the wire," Sanderson said. "We will enjoy this win for a couple of hours and prep the ladies for tomorrow's game against Rock Valley."
