JOLIET, IL - Sunday's rubber matchup between Joliet Junior College and Waubonsee was winner-take-all.
The Wolves needed an excellent pitching performance and got it from
Tyler ZAREMBKA. The southpaw fired a complete game surrendering only one earned run in JJC's 12-2 win at
Wayne L. King Jr. Field. The win means JJC advances to next weekend's Region IV Tournament which will be hosted at Oakton Community College.
Zarembka's defense helped his cause turning a pair of sparkling double plays. Zarembka also picked two runners off the bases.
His offense scored early and often which helped him settle down. JJC scored at least one run in the first six innings of the game led by the top of the order. Leadoff man
Anthony Agne and No. 2 hitter
Adam KNERR each had four hits in the game. Agne drove in two runs while Knerr drove in three.
Jack CAVANAUGH and
Jackson STULAS each had three hits.
Nick AIROLA and
Zack PYCH each drove in a pair of runs.
The Wolves scored four times in the fifth to open up a 10-run lead which was more than enough for Zarembka, who was outstanding all game long.
JJC split games with Waubonsee on Saturday forcing the decisive third game.
