The home winning streak continues as the Wolves volleyball team defeat Harper College 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 on Tuesday evening. That is now six home victories in a row as the 15
th nationally ranked Wolves go to 15-11 overall and 3-2 in the N4C.
Harper defeated the Wolves 3-1 on September 20
th, but this was a different story all around. At the South Suburban College tournament this past weekend the Wolves lost their setter,
Raegan Pfeifer to an ankle injury. Pfeifer was among the top assists leaders in the country and a very important part of the team.
But the Wolves went to another sport, the women's soccer team, and added Addyson Mellen to the roster. Mellen had played volleyball in high school at Coal City, was a setter, but was just playing soccer at JJC. But the freshman played like she had been on the court all season.
"I was terrified before the match tonight," Mellen said. "I knew this was a big match and I just didn't want to come out here and play bad. Honestly, I missed the sport and I like meeting new people and everyone has been so supportive. So many of the soccer team were here supporting us and that felt so good. I just didn't let my nerves get to me.
"Now it's off the Madison (WI) for a soccer match tomorrow and two more volleyball games this week."
Wolves coach
Cindy Thomas was happy with Mellen's performance.
"She learned our entire offensive in two hours and did a great job tonight," Thomas said.
The Wolves led most of the why in the first three games, but in the decisive fourth, they trailed Harper 8-3, but fought all the way back to tie at 14-14. It was back and forth down the stretch with ties at 22-22 and 23-23 before JJC put it away.
On Thursday the team travels to play Milwaukee Area Technical College in another N4C match.
