The Wolves women's basketball team opened their home season on Tuesday night at the Event Center, but ran into a hot shooting Prairie State College team and lost 80-61.
The Wolves (0-3) trailed 21-15 after the first quarter and led most of the quarter, until the last few minutes that saw the Pioneers take control.
Prairie State kept that momentum going in the second quarter as they outscored the Wolves 20-14 and took a 41-29 lead into the break.
But the third quarter proved to be the turning point as the Wolves couldn't get anything going, were outscored 27-7 and the game was essentially over, trailing 68-36.
JJC didn't give up as they outscored the Pioneers by 13 in the final frame, as Angelina Knowles led the Wolves with 24 points.
"We are young and we had some players playing out of position because of a key injury right now," Wolves coach Shaun Sanderson said. "We will be a different team when healthy, because it opens up so much more for us and we can do more on the defensive end because we just don't have that depth and experience right now.
"Angelina (Knowles) did a fantastic job and when healthy as a team you will really see what she brings to the table because she has such a high basketball IQ."
