It wasn't easy, but the Joliet Junior College women's basketball team earned its third straight victory on Saturday when the Wolves hosted Southeastern Community College, beating the Blackhawks, 69-61.
"Today was a good test for us," Wolves head coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "Like the last couple of games we got a good start, but then we had some bad moments. We couldn't score or just played a little sloppy and couldn't get rebounds. But it was a great test because that team forced us to play in a way that we didn't want to play."
Grace Harris led the Wolves (3-0) with 26 points and eight assists.
"What I'm focused on right now is winning game by game, no matter how ugly or pretty it looks," Harris said. "I know my team wasn't super satisfied with the win overall, but I think today was a good lesson about how we want to play through adversity and learn to handle close scores in future games."
Maggie Grady scored 15 points and
Angie Knowles added 11. Both recorded five rebounds and combined for seven assists.
"It was a good test for us early and it was a good test for the girls to let them know, hey, every night, you're not going to make every shot," said Sanderson. "Every night you're not going to get that perfect pass. But you have to find a way and the will to win – and that's what we did tonight."
The Wolves will hit the road for the first time this season when they travel to Waubonsee Community College on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. tip off.
"I'm excited to play some road games now and see how we play when we're out of our comfort zone a bit," Harris said.
