11.12.2024

For the first time in program history, the Joliet Junior College men's soccer team earned a bid to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament as the 7th seed in Batavia, New York.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, the trip will end early as the they fell to No. 2 Nassau Community College, 4-0.

"We had our chances but we missed them," Wolves coach Cris Trillo said. "And we made silly mistakes that cost us goals. At this level, it can't happen."

The Lions struck first in the 19th minute and again late in the first half to put the Wolves behind, 2-0, entering the break. A pair of late goals in the second half proved too much for the Wolves.

Trillo said the final score doesn't reflect the way the game went, saying, "that hurts more than the loss."

The Wolves out shot the Lions, 14-12, and had more corner kicks, 7-3. Now the Wolves will have one more match at 12:30 p.m. CST on Thursday for a seventh place finish.

"I am proud of this group, though, who brought us here," Trillo said. "It's important to go home with a win. We need it to ends this incredible journey."
