The Wolves jumped ahead early and never looked back as the Joliet Junior College men's basketball team cruised to victory Thursday over College of Lake County, 91-61.
Everything seemed to click for the Wolves (9-4) as five student-athletes reached double-digits in scoring while missing just one free throw and turning the ball over just six times.
"We're up tempo or we like to consider ourselves up tempo if we can keep our turnovers down," said Wolves coach Danny Turner. "We want to play fast and I know in the first half we had one turnover and I counted nine for them. We want to continue playing up tempo and keep the defense on their heels."
Freshmen
Levi Goad and
Jeffrey Fleming each scored 17 points to lead the Wolves. Sophomore
Romello Ali finished with 16 points while
Devon Richardson notched another double-double, scoring 16 points and hauling in 15 rebounds. Sophomore
Miles Gillespie finished with 15 points and five rebounds, going a perfect 9-of-9 at the foul line.Â
"We've been working a lot on making reads in practice, so getting that going in the first half and trying to keep our foot on the gas in the second half is what we wanted to do," Gillespie said.Â
The Wolves finished the night 17-of-18 at the free throw line and shot 44% from the field.Â
"Just keeping control, playing as a team and playing off each other," Turner said. "We made some good plays and we've started having some really good chemistry playing off of each other. What I am really impressed with our last few games it our ability to knock down free throws."
The Wolves are back in action Saturday as they travel to Prairie State for a 3 p.m. tip.
