For the second time this week, the Wolves battled their opponents in extra periods. This time, however, they came out on top.
Just two days removed from its overtime loss to Bryant and Stratton, Joliet (12-11) saw a complete team effort lift the Wolves to a double-overtime victory on the road at College of DuPage, 87-85.
"What an amazing game," Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "Both teams fought to the very end. To be down two possessions with just a few seconds left -- our girls never quit, they never gave up. To force turnovers and score immediately was huge in both overtime periods."
Sophomore forward
Breanna Fogle led the Wolves, scoring 19 points while pulling in seven rebounds and recording five steals, two assists and a block.
"I think we all played very well," Fogle said. "We all stayed true to what we do. Even towards the end of regulation and under pressure, we came together to fight through adversity."
Some of that adversity came by the way of three Wolves fouling out late in the game --
Kiyah Robertson,
Ashanti Brown and
Faith Domercant.
"Our bench stepped up when we needed them, so I think this was a great team and road win for us to get our momentum back," Fogle said.
"To have half your team on the bench in foul trouble and injury tonight, I thought we grew up," Sanderson added. "I'm very proud of our team."
Robertson scored 15 points before fouling out, and fell just one rebound shy of the double-double. She finished with three steals and two blocks.
Grace Harris also scored 15 points while finishing with seven rebounds and assists, two blocks and a steal.Â
Brown finished with 12 points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal. Domercant also finished with 12 points, adding four rebounds and an assist.
"We said in the pregame that we needed to match College of DuPage's energy, effort and enthusiasm and we did that tonight," Sanderson said. "That's one of the toughest gyms to play in and we battled to the end."
The Wolves sunk just 4 of 17 shots from beyond the arc, finishing 31 of 86 from the field overall.
Joliet returns home Saturday when the Wolves host Prairie State College at 1 p.m.
