The Wolves overcame a first half deficit, but failed to maintain momentum as Joliet fell Tuesday to Kankakee Community College, 84-76.
Joliet (13-14) took its first lead in the third quarter and led by as much as nine points before falling short. The Wolves struggled at the free throw line compared to Kankakee, going 17 of 30 compared to the opponent's 24 of 27.Â
"We had a slow start the entire first half," Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "I thought the third quarter we picked up the pace and was able to play our style of basketball to take the lead. Unfortunately, we didn't make the shots when we needed it.
"We missed multiple free throws down the stretch and missed layups, whereas Kankakee converted from the line throughout the game. We have to close these games out and right now we are not doing it."
Ashanti Brown had a big night for the Wolves, finishing with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kiyah Robertson scored 15 points and hauled in a pair of rebounds.
Breanna Fogle finished with 14 points and five rebounds.
The Wolves will host Milwaukee Area Technical College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
