With 3.5 seconds remaining,
Ashanti Brown dribbled the length of the floor. She got past the runner in the lane and scored as time expired, giving the Wolves the 77-75 victory over Milwaukee Area Technical College on Saturday.
"It was a great team win today," said Brown, who finished with 21 points. "We fought hard and didn't let up."
On the play prior,
Angie Knowles sunk a 3-pointer to put Joliet (14-14) up by two with 15 seconds remaining. Milwaukee was fouled and hit two free throws to even the score before Brown's game-winning play.
"Considering lately we have been losing leads and those games, this was a really good win for us," Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson said. "Our players had a different look in their eyes down the stretch this time compared to the other games."
Brown finished 6 of 13 from the field with a 9 of 11 mark at the foul line. She finished with five assists, five rebounds and three steals. Knowles finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, a pair of steals and one assist. On four tries from behind the arc, the one she sunk was the most important.
Kiyah Robertson, who had an injury scare early in the game. scored 17 points and pulled in four rebounds to help the Wolves.
"We came into the game excited for Sophomore Day but also with a chip on our shoulder because we lost to them a few weeks ago," Robertson said. "Getting hurt earlier in the game woke up a beast inb me and I think I began to play better. But as a team, I was proud of the way we closed the game out."
Another notable performance was
Maggie Grady, who scored 13 points and finished with eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.
"The last few practices they have come together and did those little team things that are needed this time of year," said Sanderson. "I saw those things carry over into today's game. In their own way, this is a resilient group."
The Wolves will finish the regular season on Saturday when they host Triton College at 1 p.m. at the JJC Event Center.
