RICHARDSON, Texas – In a battle of two Top 10 teams, it was the seventh-ranked Joliet Junior College baseball team that prevailed Friday with a 6-3 victory over No. 5 Richland College.
What was originally planned to be a 7-inning doubleheader between the two teams became a single 9-inning game after a rain delay in the fifth inning delayed the 3 p.m. contest by two hours. The Wolves (6-9) lead, 3-1, at the time.
Jaden Mathon was on the mound heading into the delay, having pitched 4.1 innings in which he allowed two hits and struck out 4.
Jack Otis (3-1) earned the win after pitching 4.2 innings after the delay, striking out four.
Mitch Thomas hit a single in the eighth the drove in a pair of runners, giving the Wolves the go-ahead score.
Cooper Hertz drove in a run of his own that same inning to add some insurance. Hertz finished the day 2 of 4 with three RBI's.
Ryan Holloway finished 3 of 5 on the day.
The Wolves will wrap up their Texas spring trip on Saturday when they face Dallas Fort Worth Post Grad at 1 p.m.
