There was no shortage of runs scored Thursday as the Joliet Junior College softball team split an afternoon doubleheader against Harper College.

The Wolves (6-13) lost the first game to the Hawks, 8-7. Entering the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wolves trailed 8-2 before making a rally attempt, scoring three runs in the sixth and adding two more in the seventh.

With two outs in the final frame, Breanna Kwasniewski doubled on a fly ball to the left field, driving in Isabella Hanson and Emma Herder and advancing Jessica Marcin to third. Hailey Hoffmann, who hit a two-run home run over the left field wall in the sixth, struck out to end the game.

Hoffmann finished 2 for 4 on the day with a pair of RBI's off the homer. Hanson was 4 for 4 in the game with an RBI while Kwasniewski went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI's.

Cynthia Calderon (2-5) pitched six innings in which she allowed 12 hits and five earned runs while striking out three. Arianna Jentel pitched the final inning, allowing just one hit.

The Wolves came out of the gate in the second game firing on all cylinders. Hanson doubled on a fly ball to left field and Herder was hit by pitch to put runners on first and second with two outs. Brooke Kelley swung at the second pitch she faced to put the ball over the left wall to give the Wolves a 3-1 advantage.

The Hawks responded with a pair of runs themselves and shutout JJC in the bottom of the second to even the tally. The Wolves responded in the bottom of the third when Hanson doubled again, this time driving Jentel home. She would cross home plate herself when Marcin singled to left field, giving the Wolves a 5-3 advantage. Again, Harper College responded with two more runs in the top of the fourth to make it 5-all.

Herder was able to break the deadlock with a ground ball single to drive Hoffmann home. Kelley again shined, hitting a double on a line drive to center field to drive home Katie Johnske and give the Wolves a two-run advantage.

The Wolves would maintain their lead the rest of the way, thought the Hawks were able to cut the lead down to one entering the bottom of the sixth. Kelley provided insurance when she hit her second homer of the day, another three-run bomb this time over the center field wall.

Kelley finished the game 3 for 3 with seven RBI's. Hanson was 3 for 4 with an RBI.

Hoffmann (1-3) pitched the final five innings for the Wolves, allowing eight hits and six earned runs while striking out just one batter. Jenna Judge started the game on the mound, allowing a pair of hits and three runs while striking out five and walking three.

The Wolves return to action Friday when they host Madison College at 3 p.m.
