The Wolves earned a doubleheader sweep Sunday when the Joliet Junior College baseball team defeated Highland Community College.
A six-run third inning gave the Wolves (21-27) all they needed to beat Highland in the first game, 6-0.
Mitch Thomas got things started on a fly ball to left field that pushed
Jonny Carrera and
Matt Klaess home. After
Dylan Scafuri was walked in the next at-bat,
Hobbs Dunne hit a line drive to right field, allowing
Ryan Holloway and Thomas to score.
Cooper Hertz followed that with a line drive to center field for a double, pushing Scafuri and Dunne home.
Thomas finished 1 for 3, as did Hertz and Holloway. Dunne went 2 for 3 to give the Wolves five hits in the game.
Jack Otis earned the win for JJC, allowing just one hit while striking out five and walking three through seven innings of work.Â
Game Two saw a similar outcome for the Wolves as they won. 6-1.
In the third inning, Thomas hit a ground ball and reached on an error at second base, which allowed Klaess -- who had stolen second just before -- to score, giving the Wolves a one-run advantage.
The fourth saw the bulk of the Wolves' scoring as they got five runners across home plate. With Dunne on third and
Zack Tarrant at first, Hertz flied into a fielder's choice in right field, allowing Dunne to score with Tarrant getting tagged advancing to second.
A Klaess single pushed Hertz home which was followed bu a ground ball single by Holloway to score two. Finally, a Thomas ground out allowed Klaess to score himself, giving the Wolves a 6-0 advantage.
Highland responded with a run in the sixth inning for the final of 6-1.
Holloway was 1 for 4 with two RBI's while Dunne and Tarrant were 2 for 3 each.Â
Matt Kelliher earned the win for JJC, allowing three hits and one run through seven innings with three strikeouts.
The Wolves return to action Tuesday against South Suburban College at 3 p.m.
