The Wolves couldn't come back from an early deficit Friday as the Joliet Junior College baseball team fell to Waubonsee Community College in the opening round of the NJCAA Division III Region 4 Tournament, 8-3.

Through the first two innings, the Wolves (24-30) fell behind 3-0. Waubonsee added a run in the fifth, two in the sixth before adding another pair in the top of the ninth for an 8-0 lead. All three of the Wolves' runs came in the bottom of the final frame as JJC attempted a comeback.

After Ryan Holloway was walked, he was able to reach third base on a Mitch Thomas ground out. Dylan Scafuri was walked next with Michael Vesely coming in to pinch run. A sacrifice fly to center field saw Vesely get held up at first but Holloway was able to reach home to get the Wolves their first run.

Jaden Jackson hit a single in his lone appearance at the plate in the game, pushing Vesely to second. Jonny Carerra hit a line drive to center field, allowing Vesely to score and pushing Jackson to second. This was followed by Cooper Hertz getting walked to load the bases in favor of the Wolves. Mason Heitzler was walked next, allowing the Wolves to earn their third run.

Matt Klaess was the final batter for the Wolves, hitting a fly ball to left field to end the game.

Dunne, Carerra and Heitzler recorded RBI's as the Wolves amassed just four hits in the game but earned eight walks.

George Limacher took the loss on the mound after pitching 4.1 innings in which he struck out eight and walked two while allowing seven hits and four runs. Jack West, Matt Medlin and Adam Mellema all made appearances for the Wolves.

The Wolves will face Oakton College on Saturday at 9 a.m. as the NJCAA Division III Region 4 Tournament continues at College of DuPage.
