The Wolves earned a pair of important victories Saturday as the Joliet Junior College baseball team swept Moraine Valley Community College in doubleheader action.
Mitch Thomas led the Wolves (24-29) in a 5-3 victory in the first game. He went 3 for 3 with a pair of RBI's and two runs while getting walked once.
The Wolves got things going early, putting a pair of runs on the board in the bottom of the first. 
Preston Vowell and 
Cooper Hertz each drove runners home off a single and sacrifice fly, respectively. The Cyclones answered immediately with a two runs before Thomas doubled in the bottom of the second to break the tie. 
Moraine Valley evened the tally again with a run scored in the sixth. Again, Thomas doubled to push a runner home which was followed by another Vowell RBI single for the 5-3 final. 
Vowell went 2 for 3 with two RBI's and a walk while Hertz finished just 1 for 3 with an RBI. 
Matt Donovan earned the win for JJC after two innings of work in which he allowed two hits and one run while striking out three. 
Jack Otis started the day on the mound, pitching five innings with four hits and two runs allowed while striking out five and walking three.
The second game was a different story, however, as the Wolves trailed by as much as five after the Cyclones jumped ahead to an early lead. The Wolves battled back to win, 8-6.
Down 6-2 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Wolves put home five runs to take a 7-6 advantage before adding an insurance run in the sixth.
Diego Garcia-Medina led the Wolves in the second game, going 3 for 3 with three RBI's. He recorded a two-run double in the fifth and singles in the third and fourth innings. 
Anthony Rizo earned the win on the mound for the Wolves while 
Connor Bird recorded the save. Rizo pitched just 2/3 of an inning in which he struck out one while Bird pitched an inning with a strikeout as well. 
Matt Kelliher started on the mound, while 
Matt Medlin and 
Ben Hokanson each appeared.
The Wolves recorded 10 hits in the first game and 12 in the second.
Before the doubleheader, the Wolves coaching staff honored its sophomore student-athletes in their last  regular season home appearance for JJC at Wayne L. King Field.Â
