The Wolves keep the hot start to their season going as JJC men's soccer rolled past Kishwaukee College, 5-1, in their home opener on Friday.
Head coach
Cris Trillo said the Wolves' (2-0) performance surpassed his expectations.
"We could have scored so many more goals," he said. "I thought their weakest side was their defense and we exploited that really well. We had so many opportunities."
Within the first six minutes of the game, the Wolves got on the scoreboard when
Jonathan Mendez scored off a pass from
Adrian Gonzalez Martin. Five minutes later, Mendez earned an assist himself when
Noah Anhalt scored to put the Wolves up, 2-0.
"There was a player on my back," Anhalt said of his goal. "I was on the top of the box. The ball got to me and I turned. I hit the left post and it went in."
Kishwaukee scored later in the half, as the Wolves held a 2-1 advantage at the break.
In the 59th minute, Gonzalez Martin scored an unassisted goal to extend the Wolves lead to 3-1. The final six minutes of the match saw the Wolves score twice more, first off a
Jesse Goense goal assisted by
Jordi Muntada in the 84th minute and Mendez again finding success with just over a minute left in the game.
"I told them to just keep exploiting the wings and to make runs to the space," Trillo said. "Then it was just a matter of finalizing the opportunities. Again, we had so many. This was more than I expected."
Mendez had four shots on goal while Gonzalez Martin had three. Goalkeeper
Ivan Escatel faced five shots on goal, allowing just the one.
Just two games into the season and the Wolves have outscored both of their opponents, 10-1. Trillo said he is proud of his goal scorers while Anhalt described the difference as "amazing."
"As a team, it feels good," Anhalt said. "Only two games in and 10 goals scored -- I think it's pretty good."
Next up for the Wolves, they will travel to South Suburban College on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. game.
