Joliet Junior College men's soccer advances to the Midwest District Championship after a commanding 3-1 victory over Owens Community College in Perrysburg, Ohio on Saturday.
The Wolves struck first when Pablo Anton scored off an assist byÂ
Francisco Sanches Do Nascimento in the 39th minute to take a 1-0 lead into the half. In the 59th minute, Jaime Gutierrez extended the lead by another goal when he scored with help fromÂ
Richard Tetteh.
Tetteh would tally the Wolves' final goal in the 73rd minute to make it a 3-0 game late. Owens, however, answered three minutes later to make it 3-1.
Head coach
Cris Trillo said it was an intense game that the Wolves mostly controlled.
"With a 3-0 lead in the second half, our intensity went down and we conceded a goal," he said. "But we stayed focused and finished the game strong with players coming off the bench."
The Wolves will play for the Midwest District Championship on Saturday with a chance to return to the NJCAA Division III National Championship on the line.Â
