Wolves softball splits doubleheader with Illinois Valley

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Wolves softball earned a split in doubleheader action Thursday at home against Illinois Valley.

The Wolves (22-22) won the first game, 3-2, after a back-and-forth battle ended with sophomore Katie Johnske hitting a game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh. It was her lone hit in three attempts at the plate.

Joliet struck first in the bottom of the fifth after a series of stolen bases allowed the Wolves to score. Illinois Valley responded in the sixth just for the Wolves to bounce back to make it 2-1 entering the seventh. Again, Illinois Valley tied things up before Johnske settled the matter.

Isabella Hanson also went 1-of-3 with a double and an RBI. Samantha Rios finished 1-of-2. 

Arianna Jentel (7-12) earned the win after 1.2 innings pitched in which she struck out two, allowed two hits and one earned run.

Game Two did not go the Wolves way, as they fell, 13-7. Skylar Welcome (1-1) took the loss after a single inning of work in which she gave up three hits and four earned runs.

Kerigan Copes went 3-of-4 with two RBI's and a run. Hanson went 2-of-4 with a home run and an RBI. Welcome was 2-of-4 at the plate with an RBI and Aniya Adkins hit a home run as well.
