Wolves baseball wins battle against Roosevelt, 6-4

Box Score A back-and-forth game went the Wolves way Thursday as Joliet Junior College baseball beat visiting Roosevelt University (JV), 6-4. 

Roosevelt jumped out to an early lead in the opening frame when a fly ball to right field allowed two runners to reach home. Not to be outdone, Isaiah Rhodes responded in the bottom of the first with a double that allowed Jonny Carrera and Zack Tarrant to score.

Tarrant broke the deadlock in the third inning with a ground out to push Luke Tillotson home. The Wolves held that lead into the fifth inning before pitcher Brandon Cusack gave up a home run to left field that allowed Roosevelt to tie things up. 

Things stayed deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth inning. Mason Heitzler reached first after an error at third base, which was followed by a Dalton Strode sacrifice bunt to push Heitzler to second. Mark Flisk followed with a sacrifice bunt of his own that put Heitzler to third, who was thn able to score on a wild pitch. 

Roosevelt tied things up in the seventh, where things stayed 4-4 until the bottom of the eighth when the Wolves added two runs to wrap things up.

Tarrant and Rhodes each finished 2-for-4 at the plate as the Wolves tallied eight hits on the day.

Holden Burokas earned the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings in which he struck out two, walked two and allowed on hit. Kyle Bader struck two out for the save.

Next up for the Wolves is a doubleheader trip to Elgin Community College on Sunday at noon.
