Joliet Junior College women's soccer kept its strong start rolling Wednesday, defeating Truman College 4-2 to move to 2-0 on the season.
The Wolves controlled possession early but struggled to convert on chances until the 24th minute, when freshman Olivia Ostrowski buried a strike into the corner to make it 1-0. Despite creating multiple opportunities from corner kicks, the Wolves couldn't extend the lead and went into halftime ahead by just one.
The second half opened with JJC continuing to push forward. In the 51st minute, freshman Julissa Calderon's shot slipped by the goalkeeper to double the lead. Just five minutes later, in the 56th minute, sophomore Gloria Barrios finished into the corner to push the advantage to 3-0. Truman answered in the 59th minute, but JJC's defense regrouped and settled in.
Ostrowski struck again in the 83rd minute, finishing off a pass from Samantha Owens to extend the lead to 4-1. Truman scored once more in the 84th minute, but the Wolves held firm to close out the 4-2 victory.
Ostrowski credited the team's preparation for the strong start.
"The way we practice, putting in our full effort, is really playing out on the field,"Â Ostrowski said.
Assistant coach James Anderson praised the group's effort and chemistry.
"Their hustle is outstanding, and this is one of the closest teams I've ever coached, both on and off the field," Anderson said. "The two goals we gave up came down to communication, and that's something we'll keep working on so we can limit mistakes going forward."
JJC (2-0) will look to stay perfect on Friday when it travels to face Oakton College
