The Joliet Junior College women's soccer team stayed perfect on the season with a victory over College of DuPage, 3-0, on Wednesday at home.
The Wolves (6-0) struck first in the opening half with Hannah Moss putting JJC on the board to give them a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
The second half proved highly competitive, but the Wolves' defense rose to the challenge, controlling possession and limiting scoring chances.
Cayla Koranda extended the lead to 2-0 after converting a penalty kick. Her initial shot was stopped by the keeper, but she stayed with it and finished the rebound. Moments later, Kendra Vasquez added another to seal the win with a goal in the 88th minute, cleaning up another save attempt by the College of DuPage goalkeeper to make it 3-0.
Assistant coach Hailey Arlis praised the team's defense post-game.
"They really stepped up to the challenge today," she said. "We haven't had much pressure this season, and when the challenge came, our back line had the confidence to step in and get the job done."
"We really hype each other up," Sophia DeCarlo said when asked about the team's physical style of play. "We have the mentality that we're not going to lose and we go out there, compete, and play well together."
The Wolves will battle Prairie State College on Saturday where they'll look to keep the momentum going and improve to 7-0.
