After a pair of rough losses, Joliet Junior College women's basketball got back in the win column Thursday with an 80-69 victory on the road over South Suburban College.
Five different Wolves reached double-digits in points, led byÂ
Destynia McGruder with 29. The sophomore center finished with eight rebounds, five assists and a block. The Wolves (10-9) controlled the game from start to finish, never allowing South Suburban to take the lead or tie things up.
Samantha Cassanova and
Makenna Boyle each recorded a double-double. Cassanova finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Boyle had 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Demi Page scored 11 points and
Rylee Harris finished with 10.
"We stayed together as a team and it showed," Cassanova said. "Everybody was locked in on a different level tonight. This one was definitely earned and much needed."
The Wolves shot 51.7% from the field, going 30-of-58 with a 5-of-16 mark from the three. JJC finished 15-of-25 from the foul line.
"Tonight was a great shooting night for us," said Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson. "It felt good to take an early lead and not play from behind. To look at the stat sheet and see five players in double figures is a coach's dream."
"We fought well against adversity and everyone played their role and part," said McGruder. "Even with six players, we all did our job and took care of business."
The Wolves return to action Tuesday when JJC hosts Madison College at the JJC Event Center at 5 p.m.
