Opening day didn't go the way the Wolves wished Wednesday when Joliet junior College baseball fell to Prairie State College, 6-5, at Wayne L. King Field.
The Wolves (0-1) struck first when
Mark Flisk hit the ball out of left field in the bottom of the second. Then, with two outs, a pair of errors by the Prairie State shortstop allowed
Jose Granados and then
Rodney DeSilva to score. The Wolves led, 3-0, into the third inning.
Prairie State closed the gap in the fourth when the Wolves first gave up a triple followed by a walk to make it 3-2. The Pioneers took the lead in the fifth after a pair of runs scored, and a walk in the sixth inning made it a 5-3 deficit for the Wolves.
The Wolves struck again in the bottom of the sixth when
Max Miller reached home, making it 5-4. But the Pioneers responded when the Wolves gave up a double in the seventh, allowing Prairie State to go up another run.
Jacob Miller earned the Wolves' second home run of the day in the seventh inning, but that was it for the Wolves. Miller finished 2-for-2 at the plate as the Wolves finished with six hits for the day.
JJC travels to Vincennes, Ind. this weekend for a doubleheader on Friday and a single game Saturday.
