Needing a win to secure a spot in the postseason, the Wolves ultimately came up short against Triton College, 77-66, in the high-stakes matchup Saturday.
Costly turnovers and a flat start hurt the Wolves (12-14) early, and they went into halftime trailing 53-26. Despite the deficit, the team showed resilience coming out of the break, cutting the lead to 59-42 and continuing to chip away.
The Wolves entered the fourth quarter down 68-48 but refused to quit. They trimmed the deficit to 70-57 and later got the margin down to as low as 10. However, the comeback effort fell short as Triton held on for the win.
After the game, head coach
Shaun Sanderson reflected on the team's performance and growth.
"We came out flat and timid, and we tried to act like it was a normal game, but we knew what was at hand," Sanderson said. "We're a young group, and this is a life learning lesson. We're going to continue to fight and not give in. You can't quit. We may have lost the game, but we're winners in life."
