Box Score The bats were going wild Friday as Joliet Junior College baseball rolled past Waubonsee Community College, 16-2.
Freshman outfielder
Will Withers powered the Wolves (2-3) offense, going 3-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBI's. Withers hit a two-run double in the opening frame with two outs that put the Wolves ahead early, 2-0.
After
Max Miller singled to open the second inning and
Austin Cusack singled on a bunt,
Charlie Martin hit a line drive to center field that pushed Miller home. Then,
John O'Brien hit a double that pushed Cusack and Martin home, giving the Wolves a 5-0 lead after two innings. Martin and O'Brien each finished the game with two hits.Â
Jose Granados tripled on a fly ball to open the third, starting an explosive inning for the Wolves who added another six runs to their tally.Â
The Chiefs found a moment of reprieve in the top of the fourth when Waubonsee finally scored. But the Wolves, not to be outdone, added another five runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 16-1. Waubonsee scored once more in the fifth with the game then coasting to a 7-inning finish.
The Wolves racked up 17 hits on the day to the Chiefs' 11.
Three pitchers saw action for the Wolves as sophomore
Bryson Mello opened the game on the mound before
Daniel Police taking over for the next three innings.
Holden Burokas closed the game out. Mello struck out three in his quick appearance while Police allowed five hits and a run with a single strikeout. Burokas finished with six hits, a run and four strikeouts.
On Saturday, the Wolves host Illinois Valley Community College at Wayne L. King Field for a noon pitch.Â
