Softball splits doubleheader as Spring Break trip continues

Joliet Junior College softball dropped its first game during the team's Spring trip to South Carolina as the Wolves split Tuesday's doubleheader.

The Wolves (7-4) dropped their first game of the day, 6-3, to University of South Carolina-Union. Kassie Martinez (0-1) recorded the loss in the circle after an inning of work in which she allowed two hits and a run.

Lea Herkel led the offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Samantha Rio went 2-for-4 with a run and Karli McMillin also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Everything went right in the Wolves' second game as JJC ran away from Minnesota North College-Rainy River, 15-5, in five innings.

Skylar Welcome (1-0) earned the win after two innings of work. Welcome allowed three hits and two runs while recording a strike out.

This time, Paige Borton powered the offense, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, two runs scored and three RBI's. 

Avery Scheuer finished 2-for-2 with both her hits being for doubles while scoring a pair of runs. Liyah Owens went 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored.

The Wolves wrap up their North Myrtle Beach trip on Wednesday with a pair of games, the first against Sussex County College at 9 a.m. before finishing at 1 p.m. against Kaskaskia College. The Wolves will then be off until March 18, when they host Saulk Valley.
