The Wolves battled, but fell short against Salem Community College on Thursday, 91-78, in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament quarterfinals.
Joliet Junior College fought hard through a back-and-forth contest, powered by sophomore
Victor Yatou. The center earned a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards.Â
At the half, the Wolves led by one, but were outscored 57-43 in the second half.
"We allowed easy buckets and offensive rebounds in crucial possessions," said Wolves coach
Danny Turner.
Including Yatou, five total wolves reached double figures in scoring. Freshman
Ricky Hill as well as sophomores
Levi Goad and
Jeffrey Fleming scored 13 points. Hill finished with three rebounds, three steals, a pair of blocks and an assists. Goad recorded five rebounds and two assists. Fleming hauled in seven rebounds while recording three steals and two assists.
Jyaveion Green scored 11 points in the loss.
The Wolves aren't done yet, as they will face No. 9 Genesee Community College in round two of the consolation bracket on Friday at 11 a.m. CST. The game will be streamed live on njcaa.org/network.
