Henry Cheung is in his fifth season as the head women’s soccer coach at Joliet Junior College, where he has compiled a 34-22-6 record (.597) and elevated the Wolves into a nationally recognized women’s soccer program.

In 2025, Cheung guided Joliet to one of the most successful seasons in program history, posting a 13-4-1 record with nine shutouts and an 11-match winning streak — the longest in program history. The Wolves scored 65 goals in 18 matches, ranking fifth nationally in NJCAA Division III scoring, and earned a No. 5 national ranking, the second-highest in program history. Two players were named NJCAA Players of the Week, while forward Victoria Davila earned NJCAA Second Team All-American honors after recording 13 goals and 5 assists.

Academic excellence has been a hallmark of Cheung’s program. In 2024, the Wolves were recognized as an NJCAA Academic Team of the Year after posting a cumulative GPA of 3.19. Four players were also named to the NJCAA All-Academic Team for achieving GPAs of 3.60 or above.

The 2023 season marked a breakthrough year for the program. Cheung led the Wolves to a 12-2-3 record, a Region 4 Championship, and an appearance in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament, falling to eventual national finalist Delta College. Joliet scored 87 goals, reached as high as No. 4 in the national rankings, and produced six first-team All-Region selections. Jalyssa Villafuerte was named Region 4 Player of the Year and Second Team All-American—the program’s first All-American since 2017. Cheung was honored as Region 4 Coach of the Year.

In his first season at JJC in 2022, Cheung helped guide the Wolves to a 3-7-1 record while earning the No. 2 seed in the postseason. That year, four players earned All-Region First Team honors, four earned All-Region Second Team recognition, and eight Wolves were named to the N4C All-Conference Academic Team.

Cheung joined Joliet after serving as the head coach at Kishwaukee College for two seasons, where he recruited more than 25 student-athletes and led the program to historic success. In his second season, he expanded the roster from six to 20 players and guided the Kougars to an undefeated Arrowhead Conference campaign without conceding a goal.

In addition to his collegiate experience, Cheung has coached multiple club teams in Morris, Minooka, and Aurora, Illinois, and served as head varsity boys’ soccer coach at Newark High School from 2019–2021. During his tenure at Newark, five players earned All-Conference honors and one was named to the IHSSCA All-Sectional Team.

Cheung holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “D” License and multiple United Soccer Coaches diplomas, including National and Advanced National certifications, Level 1 Futsal, Attacking and Defending Principles, 11v11 Formations and Systems of Play, and Level 1 Goalkeeping. He has served on staff at elite soccer camps at Texas A&M University and Grand Valley State University and is an active member of United Soccer Coaches and its Asian/Pacific Islander Coaches Advocacy Group.

Outside of coaching, Cheung enjoys supporting his favorite club, Newcastle United, cooking, and spending time with his family. He also works as a certified interpreter for state and federal government agencies. Coach Cheung and his wife, Kristin, reside in Shorewood with their children, Adriana, Landon, and Ella.
