Samantha “Sam” Gewalt began playing soccer at the age of four and competed at a high level for over 20 years. Throughout her career, she demonstrated versatility and deep game knowledge, with primary positions as goalkeeper and forward, while possessing the ability to play every position on the field.

Her competitive career started with Team Chicago Soccer Club, where she spent the majority of her club years. During her time there, Sam and her team earned multiple titles, including state championships and a second place finish at the national level. She later continued her club career with Windy City Pride Soccer Club, competing for two additional seasons.

Sam attended Minooka Community High School, where she was a four-year varsity starter and earned All-Conference honors.

She went on to compete at Joliet Junior College from 2014–2016, where she served as team captain for both seasons. As a goalkeeper, Sam made a significant impact and holds the program record for most saves in a single season (221), highlighting her leadership, resilience and consistency on the field.

Following her junior college career, Sam transferred to Aurora University, where she continued her academic journey and graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in K-12 Physical Education and Health. Coach Gewalt has coached locally at the Channahon Park district and Three Rivers Soccer Club.
