Now in his fourth season as head coach of the Joliet Junior College women’s soccer program, Coach Cheung has compiled an overall record of 21-18-5, guiding the Wolves with a passion for both athletic and academic success.

In 2024, his team's commitment extended beyond the field, earning distinction as one of the NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year with a cumulative GPA above 3.0. Four players garnered individual honors, being named to the prestigious NJCAA All-Academic Team for maintaining GPAs of 3.60 or higher.

The 2023 season was a landmark year for the Wolves, as they posted a 12-2-3 record, won the Region 4 championship, and secured a spot in the NJCAA Midwest District Tournament. Though their journey ended against national finalist Delta College, the team soared to a No. 4 national ranking, netted 87 goals, and enjoyed a nine-game unbeaten streak. Six players earned All-Region First Team honors, including Region 4 Player of the Year and Second Team All-American, Jalyssa Villafuerte—the first JJC All-American since 2017. Coach Cheung was named Region 4 Coach of the Year for his leadership.

In his inaugural season at JJC in 2022, the Wolves posted a 3-7-1 record, entering the postseason as the No. 2 seed. Under his guidance, eight players made the N4C All-Conference Academic Team, and eight earned All-Region honors, split evenly across First and Second Teams.

Prior to JJC, Cheung revitalized the women’s soccer program at Kishwaukee College, recruiting over 25 student-athletes across two seasons. His efforts culminated in the program’s first undefeated run in Arrowhead Conference play, achieved without conceding a single goal. He coached standout midfielder Darian Lucas to All-Region First Team honors in her freshman season.

Cheung’s coaching roots run deep in Illinois soccer, including roles with club teams in Morris, Minooka, and Aurora, and three seasons as head varsity boys’ coach at Newark Community High School, where he produced multiple All-Conference selections and an IHSSCA All-Sectional honoree.

A lifelong student of the game, Coach Cheung holds a USSF “D” License and numerous diplomas from United Soccer Coaches, including National and Advanced National credentials, as well as specialized training in futsal, goalkeeping, and tactical systems. He’s contributed as a camp staff member at Texas A&M University and Grand Valley State University and is actively involved with the Asian/Pacific Islander Coaches Advocacy Group.

Born in Hong Kong and a former Bentham Academy (England) player, Cheung later moved to Chicago and served as captain of his varsity high school team. Away from the pitch, he is a certified interpreter for state and federal government. He resides in Shorewood with his wife, Kristin, and their three children—Adriana, Landon, and Ella—and cheers enthusiastically for his favorite club, Newcastle United.
