The Joliet Junior College women's soccer team kicked off the 2022 campaign in great fashion as they came away with an 11-0 home win over Illinois Valley Community College.
It was the first win for the Wolves women's soccer program since 2019 and the first win for new head coach
Henry Cheung.
"It felt so good, especially a total team victory," Cheung said. "We got better from our scrimmage game. The movement of the ball, the positioning and everything we have worked on. It was great to play our first game at home and I'd like to thank all the fans, our administration and everyone here at JJC."
Seven different players scored goals for the Wolves, as four players scored two goals. The first goal of the season was scored by
Cassandra Rosales as she scored just seven minutes into the game. She would add her second goal in the second half.
"It was a nice felling to score the first goal but it really seems like everything was leading up to that," Rosales said. "I came to JJC in 2020 and we didn't have a season because of covid, then last season we didn't have a team, so that felt really special and it felt good to be the one to start it off.
"We still have a lot to work on but we have such great energy on this team and much more to accomplish. But a great way to start the season."
Also scoring two goals for the Wolves were
Payton Kjellesvik,
Yamyle Padilla and
Monica Hernandez.
Adriana Plascencia,
Addyson Mellen and
Stephanie Tirrito also chipped in with goals.
The Wolves will now host Rock Valley on Saturday in a 1:00 pm game.
