Despite a quiet third quarter, the Joliet Junior College women's basketball team earned a hard-fought victory on the road in overtime Saturday over Prairie State, 63-56.
Freshman
Jazlynn Foster powered the Wolves (7-4), recording a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds.Â
"I feel like today was more of a mental game because we played three games in three days, so we had to play through the soreness which led to frustration," Foster said. "At the end of the day, we executed to the very last second of the game."
Freshman
Joyce Tua-Link scored 20 points in the win, adding five rebounds, five steals, five steals and a block. Sophomore
Kiyah Robertson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.Â
The Wolves held a slim lead after the opening quarter, 14-12, and held a 30-23 edge heading into halftime. In the third, the Wolves were outscored 17-7 as they allowed Prairie State to stay in the game. The lead changed nine times as the Wolves shot 42.1% on the day. In the overtime period, the Wolves outscored Prairie State 12-5 to take the win.Â
"I am very proud of these young ladies with the way they gutted out this win," said Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson. "It wasn't pretty but playing three college games in less than 72 hours is a tough task. We defended well when it counted most. Mentally, we are in a good place and will get some rest in these next few days."
Next up for the Wolves is a trip north as they travel to Rochester Community & Technical College on Friday and Anoka-Ramsey College on Saturday before the holiday break.
