The Wolves let a hot start slip away as Joliet Junior College women's basketball fell Saturday to Anoka-Ramsey, 81-63, in Coon Rapids, Minn.
JJC jumped ahead to an early 20-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Golden Rams outscored the Wolves 25-9 in the second to take a 37-29 lead into the break.Â
Sophomore guardÂ
Makenna Boyle led the Wolves with a double-double, scoring 16 points and hauling in 13 rebounds.
"Our energy was great in the beginning," said Boyle. "We played as a team getting easy buckets. I think this game was all about effort and after the first half, we pushed away from the fundamentals. They out hustled and outplayed us."
The Wolves shot 35 percent from the field and made just 16.7 percent of their shots from the three.Â
Sophomore centerÂ
Destynia McGruder scored 14 points and sophomore guard
Demi Page finished with 12.
"This Minnesota trip is always a test of where we are among the best in other regions," said Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson. "Anoka will be at the national tournament and I believe when given the opportunity we can compete with the best of them.
"Now it's time for a break and a fresh start in the second half."
The Wolves enter the Holiday break at 6-7 overall and will return to action Jan. 6 at College of DuPage.
