The Wolves extend their winning streak to five games Thursday as the Joliet Junior College women's basketball team rallied late to secure the victory over South Suburban College, 65-63, in their home finale.
With roughly a minute left in the game, freshman
Demi Page found herself wide open and put home a 3-pointer that put the Wolves ahead. If you ask Page, she'd tell you there was no game plan in that moment.Â
"I was just open," she said. "I mean, I missed a couple but, like, I consider myself a shooter so ... I'm going to fire it up. That one I knew was going in before it left my hand."
Page finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, an assist and a steal, going 4-of-10 on the night with a 2-of-5 mark from the three. She was 4-of-8 at the foul line. While Page's 3-point bucket put the Wolves ahead, it was
Kiera Hunt and
Jazlynn Foster who added the cushion, as Hunt went 3-of-4 at the foul line while Foster sunk a pair of free throws in that final minute.
"It was the best feeling," Page said. "It was a much-needed win. Everybody was getting frustrated and stuff like that. My team always wants me to score and defend -- that's my job on this team so to see that I did my job, that always feels good.'
Foster led the Wolves in scoring with 16 points, adding six rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. Hunt finished with 12 points with a 3-of-4 mark from beyond the arc.Â
"There were a little bit of nerves," said Wolves coach
Shaun Sanderson. "With this win, we just secured our ticket to go to Dallas and play in the playoffs. So, they were a little tense and nervous but they can kind of relax right now."Â
Lovely Tua-Link scored 15 points for the Wolves. The team finished shooting 31% on the night but won the rebound battle against South Suburban, hauling in 33 board to their 29.Â
The Wolves (14-12) wrap up the regular season Saturday when they travel to Triton College for a 1 p.m. tip.
