The Wolves earned a doubleheader sweep of Bryant & Stratton on Sunday in large part due to freshman
Brenden Henderson.
Tied 9-9 entering the bottom of the eighth inning in the second game of the doubleheader, Henderson hit a solo homer to give the Wolves the go-ahead score, and ultimately, the 10-9 victory.
The Bobcats struck early in that game, taking a 1-0 advantage in the opening frame before a four-run third inning gave the Wolves (9-13) the lead. From there, it became a back-and-forth affair as Bryant & Stratton scored two in the fourth and the Wolves responding in kind. The Bobcats scored three more runs in the fifth to tie things up, 6-6, before adding three more for make it 9-6 midway through the sixth.
Down by three, the Wolves began their rally immediately with a run scored in the sixth and two more in the seventh to once again tie the game up before Henderson completed the rally in the eighth.
Henderson finished 2-for-5 with two RBI's in the game.
Jacob Miller was 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI's.
Max Miller,
Isaiah Rhodes and
John O'Brien each recorded two hits.
Brandon Alazamora earned the win in relief after two innings pitched with four strikeouts and no runs allowed.
Game One
The Wolves and Bobcats were duking it out all day, with JJC prevailing in the first game, 11-8. Matt Fox (4-0) earned the win in relief while
Danny O'Malley recorded his third save of the season.
Rhodes powered the Wolves' offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while recording two RBI's. O'Brien recorded two hits in the first game, one of them for a triple.
Will Withers had five RBI's after going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
The Wolves return to action Tuesday when they host Kankakee Community College at Wayne L. King Field at 3 p.m.
